Preliminary Questions for Counselling

Counselling is for you, if you want to resolve an issue or issues which are challenging.

Take a moment and answer the questions below on a piece of paper:

  1. What areas of my life are affected and how? *
  2. What is/was my part in the problem/challenge? What can I personally change?
  3. Where do I project responsibility outside of myself or blame someone else? Why?
  4. What (if any) benefit do I get from having this problem?
  5. What would I lose or have to give up by not having this problem?
  6. How did I limit myself, and how can I stop those limits?
  7. What resources can I draw upon?
  8. What are my personal strengths and weaknesses?
  9. What would I like to change about myself which is realistically possible?
  10. What am I willing to give up or do to achieve a better life?
